Description: Learn about the organization and the events planned for the semester.

 

Tuesday 9/16, 7:00-8:00pm – Job Negotiation Presentation by Dr. Travis Grosser

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)
Description: Dr. Grosser will facilitate a presentation on job negotiations. This is an essential skill to all students in search for full time employment and internships.

 

Wednesday 9/24, 7:00-8:00pm – Google Recruiting Event (Juniors and Seniors)

Location: Registration information will be provided
Description: A representative from Google will do a presentation about career opportunities in the business side of Google. The representative will be recruiting juniors for internships and seniors for full-time opportunities. ALL majors welcome to attend. Honors in Business Association members who pay dues by Saturday 9/13 will be guaranteed a spot at the presentation. Registration will open to all university students Monday 9/15. LIMITED SPACE. Registration is required to attend.

 

 

Wednesday 9/24, 5:00-8:00pm – Undergraduate Networking Forum (Underclassmen)

Location: Jorgensen
Description: This is a great opportunity for you to meet some of our most motivated and talented students. The forum will be a “no resumé” networking environment where students will talk with you and look for advice on developing more effective networking skills. Enjoy a complimentary dinner with other professional participants prior to the Networking Forum.

 

Tuesday 9/30, 6:00-7:30pm – Communication Workshop by Leadership Greater Hartford

Location: Alumni Center Great Hall
Description: Honors in Business will be hosting Ted Carroll, President of Leadership Greater Hartford. A key element of a good leader is communication. In an age where we have reduced our communications down to efficient sound bites and limited face to face interaction, you will learn how to engage in meaningful conversations that will help you connect with others in order to become successful leaders personally and professionally. The workshop will consist of highly interactive, engaging activities to foster communication and networking skills.

 

Date: Tuesday 10/7, 7:00-8:00pm – Paul Taylor of the Pew Research Center

Location: Konover Auditorium, Dodd Center
Description: Honors in Business Association will be joining Leadership Legacy for their speaker series. Paul Taylor will discuss his new book, The Next America, which examines our country’s generation gaps and ever changing demographics. Taylor will speak to how the transformation of our political and social views, economic well-being, and technology use will impact the Millennial Generation.

 

Date: Tuesday 10/14, 7:00-8:00pm – Julie Daly Meehan, Executive Director of Hartford Young Professional and Entrepreneurs (HYPE)

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)
Description: Julie Daly Meehan (CLAS ’05) will discuss HYPE which is a network of over 3,000 young professional in the Greater Hartford area. Julie will discuss opportunities within the network. Following Julie’s presentation, there will be a general meeting.

 

Date: Tuesday 10/21, 6:30-7:30pm – Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Sustainability Panel

Location: Konover Auditorium, Dodd Center
Description: Honors in Business Association will be co-hosting a panel with UConn Net Impact. Through moderated discussion, three panelists will speak on innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. The panel will be moderated by Erin Jouliot of the Careers for Common Good. The panelists are Deb Santy, Director of Strategic Partnerships at CT Innovations, Ony Obiocha (’12) COO of Happy Life Coffee, and Reed Bundy, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Constant Contact.
Following the panel, there will be a networking reception where students can talk with the panelists.  This event is funded by Professor Robert Bird, Northeast Utilities Chair in Business Ethics.

 

Date: Tuesday 10/28, 7:30-8:30pm – Jim Calhoun, CEO of Converse and UConn Alumnus

Location: Student Union Theater
Description: Jim Calhoun will talk about his experience as an undergraduate at UConn and his ascent to CEO of Converse. Calhoun will speak on the transformation of Converse given the new headquarters in downtown Boston and changes to Converse’s business practices. Calhoun will take questions from the audience following his presentation.

 

Date: Thursday 11/13, 6:00-8:00pm – Honors in Business Association Etiquette Dinner

Location: Alumni Center, Great Hall
Description: It is becoming more common for undergraduates to share meals with business professionals. Learn how to conduct yourselves at the dining table and enjoy a multi-course meal in the company of other students. Karen Thomas, the leading etiquette expert in Connecticut will provide students with etiquette and communication techniques. LIMITED SPACE. Registration is required to attend. This event is FREE to HIBA paid members. All other undergraduates are required to pay $3.
