Tuesday 9/8, 7:00-8:00pm – Honors in Business for First Year Students

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)

Description:  Are you a first year student interested in business? As part of WOW Activities, Honors in Business Association will host an event just for first year students. The WOW Event is an opportunity for incoming business majors to get to know each other well in advance of their junior year.

Come learn about what it’s like to be a business student in the Honors program, hear from guest speakers and take part in fun activities.

Guest speakers include: UConn Consulting Group, Mock Wall Street and Beta Gamma Sigma. RSVP here.

Tuesday 9/22, 7:00-8:00pm – UConn Center for Career Development

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)

Description: The UConn Center for Career Development (CCD) will be presenting on mastering your LinkedIn profile in preparation for the Career Fair on Tuesday September 29th. Attire is casual. Food will be provided.

 

Tuesday 9/29, 6:30-7:30pm – Alumni Career Panel and Networking Session

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)

Description: Honors in Business Association will be hosting three alumni who work in multiple areas of business: Victoria De Rosa (MGMT ’14), University Recruiter, Indeed.com; Stephen Giamalis (ACCT ’81), Owner, Giamalis and Co. and Avalee Miller (MKTG ’13), Senior Analyst, Nielsen. The alumni panel will be moderated by Nathan Ives, Director of Alumni Relations, UConn School of Business.

Following the panel there will be an opportunity to network with the panelists. Attire is business casual. Food will be provided.

 

Saturday 10/3- Sunday 10/4 – Harvard Illuminate Conference

Location: Harvard University

Description: Honors in Business Association will be attending the Harvard Illuminate Conference.  The conference focuses on innovation and entrepreneurship. Keynote speakers are: Tim Westergren, Founder of Pandora Radio; Dr. Mehmood Khan, Vice Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer of Research and Development at PepsiCo; and Katie Rae, Chairwoman of Boston TechStars. Application to attend is available from 9/15-9/20. Five students will be selected to attend and will be sponsored by the Connecticut Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CCEI).

 

Tuesday 10/6, 7:00-8:00pm– Executive Speaker Series: CIGNA

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)

Description: Two Vice Presidents from CIGNA will be coming to speak to students about aspects of leadership. More information can be found here. CIGNA is a Fortune 100 global health services firm headquartered in Bloomfield, CT with a focus in insurance. Attire is business casual. Food will be provided.

 

Tuesday 10/13, 7:00-8:00pm – Honors TED Talk Series: Everyday Leadership

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)

Description:  As part of the Honors TED Talk Series, Honors in Business Association will be hosting a TED Talk on the topic of Everyday Leadership.

Following the viewing of the TED Talk there will be facilitated discussion and group breakouts on how we as students can lead in our everyday lives and make a lasting impact on those around us. Through this TED Talk Series, attendees will foster conversation around the topic of leadership and expand their abilities of leadership far beyond traditional roles. Attending this event counts toward Sophomore Honors. Attire is casual. Food will be provided.

 

Saturday 10/17– Harvard Intercollegiate Business Conference

Location: Boston, Massachusetts

Description: Honors in Business Association will be attending the Intercollegiate Business Convention at Harvard University which is the largest student-run business conference in the world geared toward women in business. This annual conference, hosted by Harvard’s Women in Business brings together over 1,000 high achieving students from across the world who are interested in business. Students attending will have a greater understanding of current business issues and trends through keynote speakers and breakout sessions.

The 11th Annual Conference will take place Saturday October 17th at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts. HiBA will be bringing a total of 16 students to represent UConn.  Keynote speakers are the CEO of Walmart, Chairman of Bain & Company, and Nike President of Product and Merchandising. The conference will consist of many workshops and seminars.

Partial funding for this conference is provided by the Honors Young Alumni Fund.

 

Tuesday 10/20, 7:00-8:00pm – Vivint

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)

Description: Vivint is a home security and energy management company that is on the Forbes list of “America’s Best Companies”. UConn alumnus Asim Hafeez (BUS ’11) will be giving a presentation about Vivint and opportunities there. Attire is business casual. Food will be provided.

 

Tuesday 10/27, 7:00-8:00pm – Harvard Conference Presentations & Online Elections

Location: School of Business Room 127 (BUSN 127)

Description: Attendees of the Harvard Conference will present about their experiences and what they learned. Attire is casual and food will be provided.

 

Tuesday 11/3, 7:00-8:00pm – Alumni Career Panel and Networking Session

Thursday 11/12, 6:30pm-8:00pm – 2nd Annual Etiquette Dinner

Location: Student Union Ballroom

Description: It is becoming more common for undergraduates to share meals with business professionals. Learn how to conduct yourself at the dinner table and enjoy a multi-course meal in the company of other students. This year alumni will be joining courtesy of the Alumni Association.

Ann Marie Sabath, a nationally recognized etiquette expert will provide students with etiquette and communication techniques. SPACE IS LIMITED. Attending this event counts toward Sophomore Honors. Attire is business casual.

 

Wednesday 11/18, 9:00pm-12:00am – Ping Pong Tournament

Location: Buckley Game Room

Description: The Freshmen Representative will be sponsoring a Ping Pong Tournament in the Buckley Game Room. Come have fun with other first year students in HiBA! Winner of the tournament will get a $15 gift card to Insomnia Cookies.

 

Tuesday 12/15, 9:00pm-12:00am – Break from Finals

Location: School of Business Lounge

Description: For Finals week, HiBA has reserved the School of Business Lounge and breakout rooms for studying.
